In light microscopes, beams of visible-wavelength light emitted from a light source pass through the specimen, and the image magnified by the lenses is perceived by the observer according to differences in contrast, density and thickness.

  • Flowers, leaves and other plant structures,
  • The bodies and organelles of insects,
  • Non-living materials (soil, feed, minerals, etc.) can be examined with it.

  • A cryotome is a special microtome used to preserve certain substances, such as lipids, while preparing thin sections of cells or tissues.

  • Gel electrophoresis is used to separate charged molecules such as DNA and RNA by size. When an electric current is applied, charged molecules move through a gel towards the opposite charge. Smaller molecules migrate through the gel faster, while larger fragments migrate more slowly and therefore travel a shorter distance.

PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is the general name for reactions used to enzymatically amplify a specific region of DNA. In short, the PCR method can be described as the repeated mimicking of DNA replication over a set number of cycles.

It can also be defined as the cloning of a nucleic acid sequence “in vitro”, i.e. outside a living organism. The PCR test is a molecular diagnostic technique. Able to detect even very small numbers of microbes, it is an advanced and highly sensitive technique among molecular diagnostic tests.

  • PCR is widely used in medical and biological research laboratories,
  • Diagnosis of hereditary diseases,
  • Identification of genetic fingerprints,
  • Diagnosis of infectious diseases,
  • Gene cloning,
  • and in various other areas such as paternity testing and DNA analysis.

Real-time PCR is a method that can detect the amplification of DNA or mRNA samples and the quantity of the products in a single tube. It was developed from conventional PCR following the introduction of fluorescence techniques into molecular genetic methods. It is an amplification method that uses fluorescently labelled probes and dyes to visualise and monitor PCR amplification, with fluorescence increasing in direct proportion to the DNA produced. Areas of use:

  • Detection of pathogens,
  • Diagnosis of sex-linked diseases,
  • Oncological studies,
  • Genetic studies,
  • Prenatal diagnosis studies
