Current Research on Teaching Turkish to Bilingual Children in France

Dr. Nilgün Çelik, Dr. Şirin Kübra Yağmur · Serüven Yayın Evi ·2026

Language is one of the most fundamental elements shaping an individual's identity, culture and sense of belonging. The mother tongue, in turn, is not merely a means of communication; it is the most important asset carrying an individual's way of thinking, cultural memory and intergenerational ties. For Turkish children living abroad, preserving and developing Turkish is of great importance both individually and socially.

France has been home to a significant Turkish population for many years, making the teaching of Turkish a multifaceted field of research. This book aims to contribute to the field by examining the teaching of Turkish in France from different perspectives. The book first sets out the theoretical and practical framework of Turkish language teaching for Turkish children in France, and then examines parents' views on mother tongue education. Next, the level of use of formulaic expressions by bilingual children is evaluated through an applied study, and the final chapter discusses the potential contributions of artificial intelligence technologies to content creation in Turkish language teaching, using A1-level examples.

Bringing together different research methods and perspectives, this work is intended to serve as a useful reference for researchers, teachers, graduate students, education administrators and all stakeholders working in the field of teaching Turkish abroad.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the preparation of this book, and we hope that this work will make a contribution to the field of teaching Turkish abroad.
