Department of Biochemistry

Biochemistry is the branch of science that studies the organization and functions of biological systems at the molecular level. It is a multidisciplinary basic science closely related to fields such as toxicology, pharmacognosy, pharmacology, analytical chemistry and microbiology. The Department of Biochemistry offers pharmacy students courses over two semesters: Biochemistry in the spring semester of the second year and Clinical Biochemistry Practices in the spring semester of the fourth year.

The research areas of the Department of Biochemistry at Ankara Medipol University Faculty of Pharmacy include:

  1. Bioactivity studies in plant extracts and blood serum (such as antioxidant and prooxidant activities)
  2. Enzyme purification and characterization
  3. Development of new bioanalytical methods for the analysis of bioactive components in biological samples
  4. Investigation of the effects of natural and synthetic active pharmaceutical ingredients on biological samples in terms of biochemical parameters
  5. Chromatographic analysis of the essential volatile components of medicinal aromatic plants and bioaffinity applications of these components
  6. Enzyme inhibition in biological fluids and tissues resulting from drug interactions
  7. In vivo, in vitro and ex vivo biochemical activity measurements
  8. Biosensor development and applications
